January 18, 2023If you are looking for a storied cave near Los Angeles, you may want to check out Cave of Munits. This short and easy hike is perfect for a day trip. With sweeping views of the San Fernando Valley, the Cave of Munits is a great option for anyone who loves the outdoors.
The Cave of Munits is located in the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. It is part of a 2.1-mile loop that is easy to explore. Although you can see the entrance to the Cave from the main road, you will need to follow a dirt path to reach the cave.
Once you get to the trail, you will notice several large oak trees. You will also notice a large tree that is right next to the hill. From here, you can either follow the path to the left or take a shorter route to the right. As you head to the top of the hill, you will be rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the valley.
During your hike, you will come across some cool rock formations. These are unique and fun to explore. One of these is the sedimentary composite, which has good rocks to grab on to. You will also have a chance to see the Cathedral Ceiling of the Cave of Munits. In addition to these features, you will be able to spot the natural skylights on the ceiling.
At the end of the trail, you will be rewarded with a nice view of the Castle Peak, a high point of the mountain. If you decide to climb up to the peak, be prepared to have a difficult time. This is because the top of the mountain is a steep climb. There are also a few large caves in the area, which make this a challenging hike. Hikers should wear good hiking shoes and keep an eye out for loose rocks. Be sure to keep your feet on the trails, especially if you are a beginner, and don't try to climb over the rocks.
For those who have a little more experience, Castle Peak is not a bad climb at all. However, it is a little more steep and it's not easy to see the cave from the top. On the other hand, you can still have a beautiful view of the valley and the outskirts of the town of Woodland Hills.
Aside from the Castle Peak, the Cave of Munits is a perfect cave to visit if you're in the area. Located on the westside of El Escorpion Park, this cave has been a sacred site for the Chumash tribe. They believe that a shaman lived in the cave, and he was killed when he supposedly murdered a tribe leader's son. His body parts were then thrown to people who wanted to return to the scene.
The hike to the top of the Cave of Munits is great for any outdoor enthusiast. Even though it's only a short hike, the panoramic views are something to look forward to.
